Position: Assistant Golf Director

JOB TITLE: Assistant Golf Director
REPORTS TO: The Golf Director

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Manage all golf and golf related activities and business together with the Golf Director.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Together with the Golf Director plans, promotes and directs all golf activities
  • Ensures that pin positions, tee positions, dustbin positions are correctly implemented
  • Makes sure that there is enough course equipment such as rakes, drinking water, tee signs, buggy signs, roped off areas, GUR signs, wet area signs
  • Oversees the green speed and green condition is as per his/her satisfaction or as directed by the committee
  • Assists in the development short and long term plans for improvements to the golf course
  • Helps out in the Pro Shop with check ins if and when necessary
  • Helps out and checks scoring if and when necessary
  • Monitors cash ups in the shop if and when necessary
  • Looks after the handicaps and handicapping system of the club
  • Looks after all league teams entered by the club and in particular manages the scratch league team whenever they play. Must also coordinate uniforms and organize team building of the league members
  • Plans professional development and training activities for subordinates
  • Helps schedule the staff rosters for all of the golf staff to ensure the members and corporates are fully served and that labour costs are maintained
  • Monitors staff performance daily
  • Looks after and accommodates the Ladies section
  • Assist with any member related issues
  • Must play golf with the members of all skill levels to generate enthusiasm
  • Consults with the Golf Director regarding the golf course and practice areas, operations and club maintenance. Takes a daily drive around the course to pay attention to course detail
  • Attends all staff, management, golf committee and other applicable meetings
  • Adheres to all rules regarding health, safety and employment
  • Administers bookings
  • Consults with the driving range on the appearance and quality of the operation
  • Interprets and enforces club rules, golf rules, policies and regulations
  • Oversees and manages golf operations including golf staff for corporate golf days
  • Is responsible for bookings and making arrangements of Golf Groups, Clubs & Societies
  • Must maintain his/her visibility to members at tee off times, in the clubhouse and take part in promoting pro-active marshalling either by himself/herself or his golf staff
  • Organises and conducts club tournaments and other related events including coordination of posters, score recording and rules management
  • Management and training of caddies, this is on the basis of golf day caddie requirements and availability of caddies, includes regular instruction to fix pitch marks and repair bunkers

CHARACTERISTICS REQUIRED:
This position requires the job holder to have excellent communication and people skills. Effective and efficient general management duties such as planning, organising, leading and controlling are essential. The incumbent will have to chair staff meetings. Upholding current service levels as well as improving them. A good command of the English language and proven management skills are essential. Both upward and downward communication must be effective.
