The Marks Parks Sports Club in Emmarentia Johannesburg has a vacancy for a Club Manager.
Marks Park is a vibrant Sports Club situated close to the Johannesburg City centre and surrounding communities of Melville, Emmarentia, Greenside, Roosevelt Park and Linden, among others. Marks Park is also a stone’s throw away from UJ, the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens, Emmarentia Dam and the Melville Koppies. The Club’s vision is to maintain its heritage of being a diverse sports club offering a wide variety of sports codes to its members and social events to the local community and caters for the young and old. The Club is also well known for hosting various events and concerts.
Key Responsibilities : To lead and manage all aspects of the Club which includes management of staff, budgeting, forecasting, strategic planning, member satisfaction, membership development and marketing and coordination of events and functions.
The Manager is accountable to the Club’s Executive Council and accountable for the execution of all responsibilities, functions and activities as follows :
- To provide leadership and guidance to each of the functions of the Club;
- To advise on the organisational structure of the Club;
- To manage the Club’s annual expense and capital budget;
- To manage short- and long-term goals and objectives of the Club;
- To develop, maintain and ensure compliance with policies and procedures;
- To promote and market the Club to members and guests in order to maximize revenue;
- To reduce operating expenditure to the lowest effective level, through continuous improvement initiatives;
- To provide a level of service and efficiency that meets and/or exceeds customer expectation levels;
- To maintain and continuously develop the facilities of the Club;
- To communicate effectively with members, the public, service providers, the Committees and all employees;
- To represent the Club and its members within the broader community;
- To determine and maintain a code of conduct;
- To conduct the affairs of the Club within the framework of the law and the Club’s Constitution.
Hours of work : The Manager is required to work normal work hours as determined by the Club’s Executive Council and the incumbent is expected to plan a scheduled workload through seven days of the week. It will however also be required from the Manager to be on duty on a full-time basis during predetermined weekends.
Characteristics required : Strong leadership and communication skills are essential. Must be a self-starter and be able to use initiative. The incumbent must be honest and reliable and must earn the respect of members, staff and the public. Attention to detail is an essential requirement of the position. Must display good judgement and must be a creative thinker. Must have the ability to create an environment that inspires and motivates employees and customers.
Experience required : Incumbent to have suitable managerial experience. Must be able to implement strategic business plans and promote the sports club to ensure sustainability.
Qualification :
- The incumbent should have a matric and relevant tertiary qualification.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and related packages and a knowledge of Pastel will be an added advantage.
