A golf and lifestyle estate situated in Pretoria East is seeking a Golf Course Superintendent with at least 10 years’ relevant experience to maintain and develop the golf course and to maintain all equipment and facilities.

- Matric
- Diploma in Turf Grass management
- Certificate in Pest Control
Minimum applicable experience (years):
- 10 years’ experience as a Golf Superintendent or 1st Assistant
- Required nature of experience:
- Practical experience in agronomy, plant and soil sciences is required.
- Must have knowledge of pesticide usage.
The incumbent must possess knowledge of the game of golf and a working knowledge of the construction, establishment and maintenance practices employed on and around the golf course.
Must have efficient knowledge in the use of fertilizers, chemicals, and sand applications to various areas on the golf courses.

- Management and maintenance of greens, fairways, and roughs.
- Use and operating standards of equipment and tools used in golf course construction and maintenance work.
- Recruiting, supervising, training, monitoring, evaluating and motivating personnel.

- Safe use, mixing and application of chemicals and commercial products.
- Knowledge of the game of golf, golf rules and methods of play.
- Ability and knowledge to lay out irrigation patterns, drainage patterns, construct tees and/or greens.

Key Performance Areas and Objectives
- Management & reporting
- Develop and manage the regular maintenance of the Golf Course and to present it in optimum condition at all times.
- Develop the golf course in accordance with a long-range development plan i.e., trees, bunkers, stream, etc.
- Set objectives and to manage by these objectives.
- Present a monthly update to the Greens Committee
- Manage team discipline.
- Follow all company rules and procedures.
Maintenance
- Manage all phases of Golf Maintenance and Agronomic operations, cost control, and personnel.
- Maintain the course equipment, irrigation system, vehicles, and facilities.
- Work closely with, advise, and coordinate with the Golf Director on any issues related to golf course maintenance.
- Remain abreast of all current developments and technologies in course management and to apply these where applicable.
- Direct and participate in the construction and maintenance of the grounds.
- Oversee the care and maintenance of the turf, ornamental plants, shrubs, trees, and wetlands on the facility grounds.
- Manage an aggressive water usage tracking plan and irrigation systems.
- Schedule maintenance practices around member play and outings to maximize efficiency and minimize disruption to members.
Budgeting
- Produce and manage within the Course expense budget.
- Develop and manage an ongoing equipment replacement programme
- Plan and budget for additional or replacement capital equipment.
- Develop annual operating budget and plan for maintenance and capital improvement projects.
- Maintain records and complete required reporting. Order parts, supplies and equipment as needed.
Team management
- Lead and supervise the course staff.
- Continuously improve work practices, procedures, and processes
- Act as a representative in Union negotiations
- Train and develop the course staff.
- Administer and enforce all Company rules, regulations, and policies for staff.
- Direct and assist the staff on the planting of new vegetation, the replacement, spraying, pruning, and trimming of trees and shrubs, the preparation of soil plant beds for aesthetically pleasing arrangements and tending to high stress areas.
- Recruit, supervise, and retain maintenance staff. Conduct employee performance evaluations and exercise disciplinary action.
- Oversee subordinates in proper and safe operation and maintenance of mechanical and power equipment.
