The core business function and focus will be to consult on, and issue Mandatory Energy Performance Certificates to CMASA affiliated Sports and Golf clubs who meet the qualifying criteria as set out by the Regulation for the Mandatory Display and Submission of Energy Performance Certificates for Buildings, and SANS1544:2014.
On the 8th of December 2020 in the government gazette Notice 700 of 2020, the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Mr. S.G. Mantashe promulgated the Regulation of the Mandatory Display and Submission of Energy Performance Certificates for Buildings, this Regulation is under the National Energy Act ,1998 (Act no. 34 of 2008). It obliges Accounting Officers of organs of states with buildings of 1000 m2 and owners of buildings with non-residential buildings of 2000 m2. These buildings must fall within the required occupancy classifications, A1 (Entertainment and Assembly), A2 (Theatrical and Indoor Sport), A3 (Places of Instruction) and G1 (Offices).
The Regulation states that all required buildings need to comply on or before 7 December 2025, or face penalties of a fine of up to R5 million and/or imprisonment of up to 5 years.
