Purpose: To manage the golf operations of Mount Edgecombe Country Club.
The below duties and accountabilities include the controls of the following but are not limited to:
➢ To ensure Golfers have paid and to collect green-fee receipts
➢ To manage, start the field, marshal and do scoring for each official golf day i.e., Seniors, Ladies, Men’s, all day Saturday and Sunday plus all Corporate Golf Days.
➢ Have sandbags available and direct to correct course
➢ To inform Golfers of local rules
➢ Manage operational staff roster
➢ Monitor the pace of play and help speed up play where necessary
➢ Keep a check on Dress Code and on course conduct, ensuring all Golfers adhere to the rules of the club
➢ To ensure that non-golfers using the golf courses do not obstruct or interfere with play
➢ Attend to any complaints on the golf courses
➢ Perform regular course inspections, assisting the greens staff with attention to detail
➢ To ensure the Golf courses are set up in the appropriate manner
- ➢ Daily Golf Course inspection:
- Identify areas of neglect
- Assist the Green Keeper with the marking out of hazards and drop zones
- Ensure that areas of GUR are always marked and clearly identifiable
- Make sure that signage is always immaculate and presentable
- Course set up
- ➢ Ensure that all tournament and competition course requirements are implemented and followed
- ➢ Course condition to be managed daily and local rules applied and posted on the notice board
- ➢ Promote and direct all golf activities
- ➢ Ensure Golf carts are clean and in working order
- ➢ Ensure the Golf cart area/caddy area is always presentable
- ➢ Manage the efficiency of golf cart turnaround
- ➢ Required to step in whilst the Director of Golf is off or on leave
- ➢ Attend monthly golf committee meeting (If Director of Golf is unavailable)
- ➢ Organize and run tournaments and related golf events for members
- ➢ Be available to attend member’s prize- giving’s and conduct when needed.
- ➢ Interpret and enforce golf rules and regulations
- ➢ Responsible for daily timesheets in conjunction with the Golf Booking Co-Ordinator
- ➢ Encourage member competitions and look at ways to increase events
KNOWLEDGE:
This position requires a good knowledge of golf, golfing rules and etiquette.
The person fulfilling this role should be a keen golfer, either a Professional Golfer or an Amateur Golfer, represented Nationally.
HUMAN RELATIONS:
Good people and communication skills with a good command of the english language is essential.
Both upward and downward communication must be effective.
An understanding of what a Golfer needs is essential.
THINKING ENVIRONMENT:
Set standards must be followed, however innovate and cost-effective ideas are welcomed. With proper consultation and discussion with senior management, mutually agreed outcomes can be initiated.
THINKING CHALLENGE:
Dealing with difficult members and/or guests could be a daily occurrence. Changing conditions etc could require common sense and quick thinking. Peak periods require good controls.
FREEDOM TO ACT:
Clear guidelines and standards are set and should deviation from policy and procedure be necessary, senior management should be consulted with, unless a previous precedent has been set, which was acceptable to the senior manager.
REPORTING STRUCTURE:
The Assistant Golf Director will report to the Director of Golf.
